Every Saturday I play with the same four guys. All pretty decent
golfers, but we all have our own indexes, so each event we play is handicapped, and anyone
can take it at any time. Last Saturday a large chunk of our skin money came down to the
18th hole. It was a par 5, and only I was on the green (in regulation) and figured, it's
mine! Everyone is hitting 4. My neighbor, Prudente chips his ball to within 6 feet.
I end up leaving mine short (about 2 feet). Everyone is laughing because I left dirt on
my ball, and had I not, it might have been a tap in. Prudente holds a sarcastic seminar
on how to properly clean a golf ball before putting, and low-and-behold, he is using a
BALLZEE ball cleaner. Not only have we never seen one, we thought he was a geek for having
one!!! Long story short, after Prof. Prudente wraps up his workshop, he goes on to sink
his 6-foot putt, as expected. I have a 2-foot putt to tie. As I am standing over my ball,
all I notice is how dirty my golf ball still is. "It' s a 2-foot putt, so what!!
"Nice smooth stroke and hole-it-out!!!" I think to myself.
Nope.
There is nothing worse than losing skin money because you have dirty balls.
